Habits and Addictions

Don’t let a habit make you ! Just like a craving – it is said that a craving usually lasts 12 minutes but after you get past wanting chocolate you may develop a sudden craving for yogurt or cake or skittles. Your habits can be replaced by other habits as well. Just think it takes 28 days to break a habit so how long does it take to form one ? Well if you need to get over a bad habit why not replace it with a good one. We are slaves to our habits and subconsciously we may not realize why we have these habits, we just do. Be mindful of what your doing and why. For example, most people have a habit of washing their face and brushing their teeth each morning and before bed. I now have made a habit of drinking two tbsp’s of apple cider vinegar in 8oz’s of water as soon as I wake. There are powerful benefits behind this little cocktail but that’s for another post. I also made it a habit to have a cup of green tea daily and an organic apple every day .  If I don’t get my apple and green tea it just feels weird.

If you need to overcome and addiction or a habit make sure you know why and how it should be taken care of.  You think wait … Why am I doing this? I know I shouldn’t but then you do it anyway. Why? If you make it a habit to constantly evaluate your actions then it will be good. If you make it a habit to workout 3-4 times a week then your are being mindful and disciplined and pretty soon it just comes second nature.  In addition you will see results and reap the benefits.  Pick 3 things that you have been wanting to commit to. Now figure out what you need to do. If it helps make list and post reminders. I make it a habit to set reminders in my iphone for my daily agendas the night before. When I wake up with a clear mind I just refer to my ical (calendar) and I knock out my goals and habits I want to form. It’s easy try it ! Don’t let your habits be your down fall. Make your habits a progression towards a better you. Let go of your addictions they only hinder you .
